Usually, that means a Zigbee or Wi-Fi controller wired into the power supply. You tell your app or your voice assistant to turn it on, the relay clicks shut, and you’re good to go. The best part? Shortwave elements heat up almost instantly. There’s no annoying lag. That’s why they’re perfect for smart setups—you don’t have to leave them running for hours just to keep the chill away. Built for the outdoors That IP55 rating might sound like technical jargon, but it’s actually the most important part of the build. It means the housing keeps out the dust and can handle water jets hitting it from any angle. We seal the electrical junctions tight so a bit of rain doesn’t fry your circuit board. One quick tip: watch your wiring. These heaters pull a lot of power. If you use a cheap, undersized smart relay, the initial surge of electricity will probably burn it out. Don’t skimp here. The reality check Adding smart tech adds a few more moving parts to the install. For one, your Wi-Fi has to actually reach your patio. If the signal drops, your fancy app becomes a paperweight. Because of that, we always suggest putting in a physical override switch. It’s a simple backup. That way, if the internet goes down, you can still flip a switch and stay warm.
