
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Feel Good
Let’s talk about those mirror infrared heaters you see in bathrooms. They’re great because they hit you with warmth the second you flip the switch. But there’s a tricky part to getting them right. You want that intense heat, but you don’t want to feel like you’re staring into the sun—especially if you’ve got a baby in the room. Keeping it easy on the eyes Standard heating tubes are pretty bright. Too bright, actually. If you just used a raw element, it would be blinding. To fix that, we use special coatings or “doped” quartz glass. Think of it as a filter. It blocks the harsh UV rays and tones down the glare, leaving you with a soft, warm glow. You get all the heat you need to stop shivering after a shower, but none of the eye strain. Where the heat actually goes We use high-purity quartz glass so the lamp doesn’t just pop the first time you turn it on and off. But the real magic is in the mirror. We’ve shaped the reflectors to push the heat straight down in a tight cone. Why? Because heating up your ceiling is a waste of electricity. We want the warmth on you, not the drywall. A few things to watch out for These things pack a lot of power into a tiny space. Because they get so hot, the housing has to be tough. If you use cheap plastic, it’s going to warp. Period. You also need to make sure your wiring is up to the task. If the wires are too thin, you’ll get voltage drops, and the lamp will start flickering. No one wants a strobe light in their bathroom. We built these to be easy to swap out when they eventually wear out. The connectors are snug to keep things safe, but do me a favor: check the thermal paste on the heat sinks every couple of years. It keeps everything running cool and efficient so the heater lasts longer.
