
Why we stopped building “disposable” towel rails
Most towel rail heaters are built as one solid chunk. It’s a nightmare. If a heating element burns out after a few years of heavy use, you’re usually stuck with two bad options: rip the whole thing off the wall or spend hours messing around with a mess of internal wiring. We got tired of that. So, we switched to a modular infrared design. The idea is simple. We stopped thinking of the heating element as a permanent part of the wall and started treating it like a battery or a lightbulb—something you just swap out when it’s done. Instead of hard-wiring everything into the frame, we used plug-and-play connectors. If a tube dies, you don’t have to tear your bathroom apart. You just pull the dead module out and pop a new one in. It’s that easy. Now, infrared is great because it heats up fast. Much faster than those old fluid-filled rails. But there’s a catch: infrared creates some really intense heat zones. To keep the outer casing from warping, we had to get picky with our materials, using heavy-duty heat-resistant gaskets and housing. Just a heads-up: if you’re going with a high-wattage module, just make sure your wall can handle the heat so you don’t end up with a weird discoloration mark on your paint. The real win happens about five years down the road. That’s usually when things start to get glitchy. Oxidation builds up on the terminals, resistance goes up, and things slow down. With a standard rail, you’re looking at a four-hour headache of a repair. With our setup? You just slide the module out, wipe away any carbon buildup, and click it back into place. Ten minutes. That’s it. You can fix one broken element while the rest of the rail keeps working, meaning you aren’t left with cold towels while you wait for a technician to show up.
