
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
When you’re working in a Class 100 cleanroom, a single tiny flake of dust isn’t just a nuisance—it’s a disaster. The problem is that most heating elements are messy. As they heat up and cool down, they tend to “off-gas” or shed little bits of material. That’s a huge risk you can’t afford. To fix this, we stick with high-purity quartz infrared lamps and gold reflectors. Why gold? It comes down to how the heat moves. Aluminum is common, but it has a habit of oxidizing. That creates a dull layer that kills your heat output and, worse, can drop micro-particles right onto your production line. Gold doesn’t do that. It stays stable. It just bounces the heat straight toward your workpiece instead of letting it soak into the housing. It’s efficient and, more importantly, it’s clean. The quartz factor The bulb itself is made of high-purity fused quartz. We’re very picky about this material because it doesn’t break down or leak impurities when things get hot. If you’re doing semiconductor or medical-grade work, this is a must. Using cheap glass is just asking for thermal shock or contamination. It’s not worth the risk. A few things to keep in mind Now, gold reflectors are the cleanest option, but they’re a bit temperamental. You can’t just scrub them with harsh chemicals or abrasive pads. One scratch in that gold layer and you’ve got a cold spot in your heating profile. And please,use lint-free gloves. If you touch the quartz with your bare hands, the oils from your skin burn into the glass. This creates “hot spots” that can cause the tube to fail way sooner than it should. Getting them running The good news is that these lamps are drop-in replacements for your current IR arrays. Since the gold reflector pushes more heat density toward the target, you might actually be able to turn down the wattage and still hit your temperature. That’s a nice win for your HVAC and cooling systems—they won’t have to work nearly as hard.
